North-south trending mountain group just S and W of the Bitterroot Range, N of the Salmon River Mountains, and E of the Columbia Plateau; it is bounded on the N by the St. Joe River; on the E by the North Fork Clearwater River, Deception Gulch, Independence Creek, Kelley Creek, Cayuse Creek, the Lochsa River, White Sand Creek, Big Sand Creek, Jeanette Creek, East Fork Moose Creek, Moose Creek, the Selway River, Stripe Creek, West Horse Creek, and Horse Creek; on the S by the Salmon River; on the W by the lower elevations of the Columbia Plateau.
